about

These pieces represent five walks around ‘Lachrymae’, an immersive installation inspired by the transformation of girls to trees and tears to amber in Ted Hughes’ adaptation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Installation devised and created by Helen Ottaway (composer), Alastair Goolden (sound designer), Rowena Pearce and Tim Millar (artists).
Lachrymae was installed in the Avenue of Trees, Wandsworth Park, 2013 as part of The Shimmy 2013; in Chapel Coppice, Ashley Chase in Dorset for Inside Out Dorset 2014 and in a woodland on the island of Terschelling, The Netherlands for Oerol 2016. Photographs by Frances Ottaway.
